Trying to find a way to remove or disable XRandR 1.2 so that my ATi driver can control multiple monitors. I have had zero luck trying to find a solution via search engines, even tried multip[le forums.

I think you have to add the line Option "Xinerama" "true" to your xorg.conf.

I did, that did not help. I am at a complete loss on this one. Linux is about choice, why am I forced to Xrandr??

What ATi driver are you using, AMD's Catalyst (fglrx) or the open-source one (xorg-video-ati)? Catalyst should let you control your monitors with the Catalyst Control Center (amdcccle) and in my experience, xrandr didn't even work with fglrx- xrandr -q said "no screens available." As far as I can tell, the only way to control multiple monitors with the open-source driver is by using xrandr.

fglrx. XRandR is now supported with the new driver. But if XRandR is enabled, the Catalyst cannot control the monitors.

Then perhaps there is a line like "XRandR" "false" to add to Xorg.conf to disable XrandR? I had been running the fglrx driver on my HD 3850 until the 9.2 upgrade simply froze X with a black screen after it loads if I try to enable Xinerama. I ended up moving to Xorg 1.6 (from 1.4.2) and building the latest Mesa/6xx-7xx drm/xf86-video-ati from git to get my machine to work properly. There is no hardware-accelerated 3D using that setup (which sucks), but the EXA 2D acceleration and actual tear-free XVideo are great. I only occasionally play games on my machine but do a lot of "real work" and TV/video watching, so that trade-off is definitely worth it.

MU_Engineer, I have tried my self to do randr "off" "false" or w/e and nothing. Iam simply shocked by this.

Just in case anyone is still trying to disable RandR 1.2, the following command worked for me:

# aticonfig --set-pcs-str="DDX,EnableRandR12,FALSE"

You can verify that it worked by looking at the amdpcsdb file:

# grep RandR /etc/ati/amdpcsdb
EnableRandR12=SFALSE

Make sure X isn't running when you run this command as the amdpcsdb file gets rewritten when X stops.
