doubt AMD will go down the AM2+ line much longer.

AM3 is the future now.

AM3 CPUs are compatible with AM2+ boards. Your statement doesn't answer his question.

I'm having trouble finding you some links, behrouz, but I believe 6-core AM3 sockets are slated for Q4 2009 to Q1 2010. 6-core Opterons will be availible before that, but not in an AM2+ compatible package. G34 is the socket you would really want to wait for to get some nice "Magny Cours" action. DCM (Direct Connect Module) will be used to fuse two 6-cores into a 12-core monster on the same die. It's similar to what Intel used to make their first quads with MCM.

6 core CPU of my understanding so far will be issued only for servers. If these processors would AM3 platform, they would be compatible with AM2 + platform..(?) It could be, for example, what Phenom X4 FX II.

Ha, some linksss:

So according to the roadmap, I was wrong. No 6-core desktop (AM3 socket) in 2009 or 2010. I guess >4 cores could mean 6 cores or 8, probably the former since Magny Cours is based on DCM of 2 6-core CPUs on one die for a total of 12.

I suppose you're into future rumors and speculation. Give this a read: Bright Side of News
