I just bought my processor & decided to test it using Prime95.The temperature was between 63 & 64,But I read somewhere that its maximum temperature is 66 celsius
so, is my processor running hot or am I just worrying too much

One more thing is the stock cooler normally this loud

P.S.My temperatures are all at stock settings

I see 62c as max safe temp .

Lot of things come into play with stock cooler and temps.

Case cooling?

Proper install of HSF ?

Paste used and was it to much ?

ambient room temps?

Voltage set correct?

Just to name a few basics. So check over it all then get back to us.

The stock cooler didn't work for me, it was keeping mine too hot as well. Buy an aftermarket one, it dropped mine 10+ degrees, mine's usually around 37*C, i'm sure it could be lowered tho =)

Yes, The system ran stable through an hour of Prime 95 torture test But this temperature is higher than the maximum temperature for operation provided by AMD
As for PC-GURU -'s reply:
Case cooling:two 120mm fans(exhaust, intake) in addition to the power supply fan which is directly above the CPU
Voltage: 1.3
Ambient temperature:32
Checking the installation of HSF(you read my mind)
---------------------------------------------
Setup:-
AMD PhenomII x4 955BE (Stock Clock & PIB HSF)
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
Power Supply:Gigabyte ODIN PRO 550 W
VGA: Sapphire Radeon HD4870 512MB
Ram:2x2GB Kingston KVR 1333
HDD:WDCaviar 160GB,500GB(both @7200rpm)
DVD:MSI&ASUS
CASE:Gigabyte Setto 1000

And I ask again,Is 66degrees under Prime 95 normal??

If its over the temp AMD provides, it is too hot, but prime is stressing the CPU more than it will be under any other circumstance. I bought a new HSF because my 940 hit 60°C after two minutes of prime with the stock cooler (so I can overclock a little).
32°C room temp is high, so the CPU will also be a little hot.

sounds like you might need better case cooling.
with just the 2x120mm fans might not get enough airflow.
what video card are you using?
does it exhaust the air out the back? or does it just circulate inside the case.
take the side off you case and see if this drops the temp-if so then you need to improve the case airflow

my $.02

Did you disable smart fan in the bios?
Did you disable Cool&Quiet in the bios?

I didn't disable cool&quiet or smart fan(this is a stress test in which the CPU is fully loaded,so cool&quiet won't affect anything)
I took the side off & the temperature dropped by one degree
My card exhausts the hot air out of the back
But, If anyone of you is sure that the thermal limit of this chip is 62, please tellme
Using Everest, the temperature of the CPU is 66 but all the cores are @64 after an hour of Prime 95(the system was fully stable)

Also,I had the same 4870 & the same power supply from my older build which also had pentium D925+,Gigabyte GA-81955X motherboard, the same hard drives & 4GB of ram,and it never over heated during Prime 95(The case was more crammed than this one)

I put a Arctic Cooler Freezer 64 Pro in yesterday.
I played an hour of FC2 with these results:

This is with stock cooler.

And with the new cooler. HWM isn't too good with the fanspeed. :/

It's not that big and clamps on using the existing bracket. I'm thinking it's around 5-6" high and 4 1/2 " square ish.

I found out on the weekend when me and my mate pulled off my Coolermaster V8 to turn it around (so the fan was blowing to the back of the case)

That the shop I got to install my rig hadnt put any thermal paste on at all!!!!!!!

I was furious.... so anyway I put some Thermal Fusion 400 on and now my temps are:

26-27 idle
No higher than 35 under load.

OK, now I have a different question. What's the difference between 790X & 790FX other than the PCI-E lanes?

These are my idle temps on stock voltage socket and stock frequency on a gigabyte ma790fxt-ud5p mobo with the ram underlocked and undervolted. Using a Zalman9900Led cooler that is.

when under load under stock conditions the cpu rarely sees over 42 and when overclocked and volted to 1.45 or 1.5 they never hit 50+
The only thing hot in my case is the graphics card ^_~

I guess I should add that my gear is in a Haf932 case from Cooler Master, Wanna dual-xfire this rig and watercool it in the near future.
