That is nothing more then asking for problems. Then the forum will fill up with people having issues from running a chip that may be a x2 for a reason.

On other forums you'll see thousands of posts about unlocking and the percentage of success is pretty high (definitely over 50%), but there is no guarantee the chip you buy will unlock and be 100% stable an X4, I'd say if you really want a quad core then just buy a quad core.

What cracks me up is people who post "they are disabled for a reason" yet don't have any first hand experience.

Maybe AMD could give away a hundred X2-555's in a forum draw<hint, hint>, I'd sure hang out here more often!

EDIT

AFAIK the 555 BEs are all C3, but it never hurts to check the part number on AMDs site.

That 555 newegg link says, - C3 Revision - Retail

Rats, my 550 C2 on my new ASUS M4A77D board is a no go for unlocking the extra cores.

May consider getting the new 555 if the price comes down soon.
