Hey there amd!
A small while ago i bought this CPU. I had the intention of using the Black Edition advantage to overclock it to its limits.
the guy sold it to me saying it was a Black Edition and, fair enough, the serial number he provided was exact. but the one on the cpu itself (HDX955FBK4DGM) isn't the same as the one he gave me (HDZ955FBK4DGM).
i tried it nonetheless and it seems that it is NOT multiplier unlocked and therefore NOT Black Edition.
can anyone confirm this? so that i get reimbursed?

If I'm not mistaken from what I am finding is that the two S/N are just different versions of the same chip. All 955 CPU's are Black Edition so you should be able to overclock with a multiplier. If you purchased from an e-tailor then contact them and tell them the S/N's do not match up and ask for a replacement or refund.

What are the X and the Z for?
This is the difference of the two.

the ONLY difference between the two is merely in the s/n? nowhere else?
if its true, than why can't i get past the 16x multiplier mark when i try to overclock it?
as i pointed out earlier, here's what makes me think about that : http://www.overclockers.com/fo...howthread.php?t=657352

HDZ955FBGMBOX is the Open Box Supply of the product and HDX955FBK4DGM is the Open Tray Supply. Open Box is what you would get from an e-tailor like newegg or zimzoomfly or in other words retail version. The Open Tray is and OEM version which is what would normally be sold to companies in bulk for hardware upgrades to their computers which looks like this...
All in all, there is no difference. Hope this helps...

No all of the AMD P II 955's are BE. They never made non BE's of the 955.

There is both of your processors with the Z and X Serial Number.
And to clear up the thread above your last response there are 4 Serial Numbers.
HDZ955FBGMBOX = The S/N on the Box
HDZ955FBK4DGM = The S/N printed on the CPU
HDX955FBGMBOX = The S/N on the Box "Although rare cause most were OEM versions that didn't have a box."
HDX955FBK4DGM = The S/N printed on the CPU
The link above shows no difference between the Z and the X S/N's. All I can say is there were probably two separate batches of the CPU's and that's how they labeled them to identify them apart.

Well I read that URL you linked and that IceQuiet guy stated that the X means it is a rare rare locked multiplier 955BE. I personally have never heard of a locked BE processor and that thread you linked is the only time I have read about it. If he is right then talk to the person you bought the product from and ask for a replacement or refund like I said. On the other hand the last URL I linked is from AMD's website and it shows both S/N versions and the spec are the same. Even the spec at the bottom Black Edition = YES. I don't know what else to tell you man. If you updated your BIOS and maybe tried it on a different MOBO then I would seriously consider sending it back.

Why would they call it "Black Edition" if it had a locked multi? Seems odd to me. Have you tried clearing your cmos and then try to clock it?
