I am looking to upgrade my current processor to the fastest one possible. I have a Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P mobo which indicates that it is a socket AM3/AM2+. The gigabyte compatibility charts are somewhat confusing in that if it is an actual AM3 board, I should be able to upgrade all the way to a Phenom II X6 1090T processor. If not, then it appears that I can only upgrade to a Phenom II X4 940 processor. Any guidance on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome Ger'

The mobo can use up to a 1090T as long as the latest BIOS is installed.

It's actually an AM2+ mobo with AM3 compatibility. So on the CPU list you can use any CPU in any section.
