I'd be grateful for guidance from forum members in changing the cpu in my HTPC,
My benchmarks are badly let down by cpu performance, graphics is brilliant due to the HD5770 GPU, but general performance is bad.
I'm using an Asus M4A785D-MPRO mobo (micro ATX) and wonder which would be the best cpu.
I have a powerful PSU and plenty of cooling fans.
Thanks guys

Your motherboard supports AM3 processors, so I would recommend a Phenom II X4 or X6. These range from $140-240 on Newegg and offer great performance. The Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition is $140, and would be perfect for an HTPC setup. I have one in my server, which was previously an HTPC.

Hi Will,
Thanks for your input, I'm looking because in the windows benchmark tests the Athlon only gets to 3.9 as a subscore.
Which badly compromises all the others, the graphics for example scoring 7.4
Could you tell me what the subscore is for the Phenom please.
Thanks
