You should be able to reach a higher OC running on fewer cores, so if your benchmark or application that you are running is single-threaded then yes you would gain performance. If the app/bench you are running is multi-threaded and can use 6 cores, then that would most likely hurt your results.

But, this was not stated, and all that was implied was that disabling cores would grant more FPS.
I concur that disabling cores could allow for a higher overclock, but this was not stated in the post, and this is why I questioned it.
