purchased at New Egg Nov 15/11...system built with a single stick of RAM. All ok. Recently able to afford dual channel memory 2X4 gig Gskill. System will not boot with Ram in slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. Will boot in slot 1 and 2 but is not dual channel.

Tried cpu on Biostar TA870U3+ and Asus M2N-E

single stick works in slot 1 and 2 on both boards....single stick does not work in slot 3 and 4 on both boards

both boards work as dual channel with a spare sempron am3 cpu that i have...i am pretty certain it is the memory controller in the cpu

what are the chances if memory controller is bad on cpu...that it is the only thing that is bad?? how much difference in performance as two sticks of 4 gig ram vs two sticks dual memory??

are there any settings i can change that might bring slot 3 and 4 to life???

i have always used AMD...20+ builds and this is the first problem i have ever had...lucky i guess..lol...thx for your time...vs
