Hello, I built a system about a year ago now. It's components were an ecs black something or rather A780GM-A rev1.1 AM2+ motherboard, phenom II X4 810 CPU, 2*2 GB ddr2-1066 ram, 808GB hdd, gts250, Great wall of china 600W PSU. OS was xp sp3, system ran fine, stable etc.
I upgraded the graphics card to a gtx470 recently. Didn't upgrade my Great wall of china PSU. System became unstable etc. I suspected something was going wrong. Swapped back out the graphics card and the system still froze. Reinstalled OS, same thing.
Then I fried the northbridge on my ecs motherboard by pluggin in a crt to the motherboard when the system was running (I do things like this and usually get away with it). So new motherboard it was (GA-MA74GMT-S2). I somehow managed to get a motherboard with a slightly older chipset (I think), however I was hoping the quality was abit higher being a gigabyte and all. This motherboard was also an AM3 mobo and so I had to purchase some ddr3 ram. No special brand but not a great wall of china brand either. I also purchased a coolmaster 700W PSU.
To my great annoyance the freezing has continue. The same problem happens under XP, Win 7, and a live linux cd. I am looking at my CPU. The problem has become much worse now btw, it freezes quickly. Can I adjust core voltages and timings to get this beast going? I really want to play some more Armed assault 2. Thanks for your time!

Try memtest86+ also, does it pass the tests and does it freeze/not? Is the BIOS up to date? I see there are three revisions of the board.

If I update the bios and the system freezes then my board is not going to be happy right?

It will not be happy no.
A BIOS update procedure after boot coud take in total say 5 minutes, so if it freezes before that, do not do it.

So this is out of the question. What can one do? I mean what are the recommended settings for the x810?

How did memtest86+ go? Which revision of the board do you have? If you still have the gts250, try with it also.

Take a closer look at your Hard Drive, I had the same problem on Gigabyte board with an x810. Turned out the Hard Drive's firmware was causing it to stall resulting in freezing.

check your drives manufacturers website for an updated firmware.

(mine was a seagate, anda quick firmware corrected it.)
