Hello all !

I just put my system together(specs will be below) but i am having an issue that i can not track down and think its either the processor or memeory or some kind of combination of both..

I am trying to run the SMP client for folding at home which uses all cores at 100%, I have it runing on my dell laptop core 2 with out issue (for some background)

It will start up and after about 5 minutes either the pc will freeze, reboot or throw BSOD(IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL )

I have run memtest - no errors, and a few other benchmarking programs with out issue
reset the bios to fail safe
rest the bios to optimize settings

I thoguht it could possibly be overheating and tried monitoring the temp it seems to get to about 57c and thats when it shuts down.. though i do not think thats considered over heating..

SPECS:
MBD: GIGABYTE MA790fx-ds5
PROhenom 9500
MEM: Corsair Dominiator 2x1 GB ddr2 1066 Pc2-8500 c5
GRAPHICS: GIGABYTE RADEON 3870
PSU: Corsair hx630w

I have no idea where to go with this and am wondering if its a posible issue in the processor?

Dave

Have you a thermal limit shutdown set in the bios options?

I've read threads on www.foldingforum.org that testify the client works so there must be something your end that is stopping you. I'd run a series of memtest and see what gives.

well after running as many tests as i can and everything passing but prime95,only 5minutes into occt (and i do not over clock) and the processor core mentioned in another thread.. I have opened a request with service as i do not see the phenoms listed in the RMA area yet..

I boutght mine a few weeks ago at a local compusa that is now out of buisness and not accepting returns so it seems i am stuck for the moment

Have you been on to the Folding Forum site? It may be that the problem lie with the client you are running. Personally I did not know that there was a release SMP client for AMD & XP/Vista(Which one?) You do not say if you are overclocking the memory.

working off your theory of one core being bad....

might I suggest running the regular folding client and setting affinity to one core.
test each core until you find the one that bsod's...

you could proablt do the samme thing with a stress program, but you get the idea-isolate the cores.
