Hello to all!
I bought a lap HP dv6 with Athlon x2 QL-64, 4GB RAM and HD 4530 video. The problem is that I'm already afraid to play games on it, even hes really powerful for middle ones. When I play for example Warcraft 3 on it, the CPU temp is 75 C, but if I run Crysis for example, the temp goes above 80 C and the game begins to lag without reason. Is this normal? As for me, I thik no, but so what, stop playing games on it? I found that the working temp for this processor is 100, but this is too much in real conditions, isn't it? The motherboard will not burn?

P.S. And I have a cooling pad, but this doesn't change a lot

The temperature is normal. The lagging problem I don't know, but Intel CPUs were stepping down when they got too hot, maybe AMDs CPUs do the same now?

I know nothing about that, but it's an interesting fact But I saw that in the description of the lap of weinter, on the blogspot indicated in his message, the gaming temperature reached 86.

How much time you use the lap already, weinter?

I am constantly trying to get the temperature down.
In the past running Intel Burn in will hit almost 90.
I could only undervolt a bit from 1.1V to 1.065V so it saved only 5 degrees for me.
Idling of course is another story arounf 45 degrees

I had this laptop too but I took it back because I thought it was getting too hot so I've bought the hp dv6 with the Turion X2 RM-74 processor and this is getting really hot too. I've only got this message and facebook open at the moment and the temperature is at 69 degrees. I haven't even tried to find out what it gets to when I play Sims 3 on it. Does anyone know what the safe operating temperature is? I really don't want to melt or fry all the insides!

Temperatures to the 80C is so so. I believe recommended is under 80 when under heavy load. If it hits 90C and above, it will begin to damage other hardware inside the laptop. Typically the GPU will be hotter than the CPU but the same guidelines apply.

As for your lagging problem, I have had that problem before. I'm not sure whether this applies to all laptops, because I use an HP, but when it lags it means the computer has switched to 2D mode rather than 3D mode. It is caused by high temperatures like you described. I suppose that switching to 2D mode is a safe measure to protect the hardware from frying.
The 2D mode is used when non-graphic demanding programs are used, i.e. browsing the web or typing documents. The processing clock in 2D mode is much less than in 3D mode. 3D mode is initiated when using visual intensive programs such as games, high quality videos, or even some flash games.

So your "lag" is probably due to this. As weinter said, replacing thermal paste should fix the problem.

I have aspire 5050 with TL-60 and it also gets too hot. The fan kicks at about 56C, then starts rotating faster at 63C, even faster over 71C and goes mad beyond 80C. Actually this laptop was sold with tk-36 which is the "solo" version of the tl-60 (dual core, the DC revision).

My temps usually are between 63-72 when doing "normal" web browsing. When recompiling the linux kernel it goes above 80 (max 82 up to now) and I though this is a "toaster". I was afraid that something will melt wen it first reached over 80. Now I know it is "normal" for mobile amd to reach these values. But I do cool it "the hard way" when recompiling linux.

I also did some "optimazations" when changing the cpu - new paste, opened some wholes for more error, etc. How "effective" is the aluminium tape in your case?

hi....im also just like you.... but, im still undervolt... the temp around 73...cpu like my model still ok if around 75 coz the max temp is 100 degree.. so,dont worry about it,just keep in your mind that gaming is not suitable in laptop,in additon for the higher graphic like crysis....

im just have a weird things happend.... recently i have check my vid using cpu-z and everest n it said that my vid is 1.15v..... before this, the vid is 0.95v... i dunno how it could be happend... nothing i do just installing dual core optimizer... is it effect my vid? can someone help me...huhuh

Would a cooling base work to remedy the overheating? Also I always check that the vents are not blocked.

I bougth Acer Aspire 5536-654G50Mn, Amd Athlon X2 QL-65 2,1 GHz, 4 GB ram, 500Gb hard drive, Ati Radeon HD3200.
As you i have the same problem with overheathing. I monitored whats happening with procesor when fully loaded.
Usualy when im using laptop for surfing and some simple stuff cpu is working with a half of its capacity that is 1050Mhz and 0,950V .
Temperature then is about 60-70 degrees. Then comes the problematic part.
When i play some FULLHD video, processor is working over 90% that means that its frequency is 2100MHz and voltage 1,250V , and temperature is rising up to 80-90 degrees. And when the cpu is loaded 100%, temperature is rising to 97 degrees, and then comes the processor protection.
It automaticly reduces voltage back to 0,950V and then begins cooling down to 75, and again when its on 75 it rises its voltage to 1,250v and 2100Mhz and heathing comes again. A i forgot to say, when it reduces its speed and voltage during the fullhd movie the picture starts to lag and skips frames becouse of reduction. I also played Heroes of Newerth and similar thing happend. I didnt find solution to this problem, i asked in service where i bought it and they didnt reply still.

If anyone has a solution or anything regarding to this problem, please reply

Please google undervolting with K10STAT it can help reduce by 10degrees although your yield may vary according to the undervoltability of your CPU.

I have a CQ40-310au with a AMD Turion X2 2.1GHZ RM-72 and 4GB of RAM and had the same problem. I was experiencing over 100 celcius with normal use; Microsoft outlook + Google Chrom + Mozilla + several browser tabs + skype. By the way, there's a complete documentation on these processors where it states 100 celsius is max temperature, so if you're at 80 celsius, you're safe. Furthermore, these processors have been tested to run at 115 celsius for 500 hours.

I was able to track down a PDF on safely disassembling it. I cleaned my vents and now my temp is down to 60 Celsius. I stripped my laptop down to, where i removed the heatsink to expose the aluminum fins for the vents. you'll be amazed by how much dirt is hiding compared to just exposing the fans and dusting it off. I completely removed the thermal paste with alchohol, and replaced it with Tuniq TX-2; I heard TX-4 is even better.

Further more, I downloaded AMD Fusion Mobility tool which allows me to safely lower processors clock to 1ghz/clock which even lowered my temp to 50++ celsius. I wouldn't recommend it though as i have heard changing clock speeds can lower processor life.

Basically, just stripping it down and cleaning it and replacing the thermal paste made about -20 celsius. I would recommend you have this done professionally unless you know what you're doing.

I wouldn't recommend Fusion Mobility Tool as dropping the clock drops the performance undervolt is a better option.
Changing Clock Speed will not lower the processor lifespan it is energy saving feature built into the cpu.
