I purchased a brand new HP Dm4t with an 512MB ATI Radeon HD 5450 about a week or two ago and I'm already having issues with the video card. There is also an integrated Intel HD card for less graphic intensive use.

My problem is whenever I stream certain videos on Vimeo/Youtube, the laptop will freeze and the screen will go black. The fan will continue running but I have to do the force reboot with the power button. The thing is....when I uninstall/remove the ATI card and just run off the integrated, the same videos work fine.

I'm wondering if it is a hardware issue (I would return it) or if it is a software issue (Wait it out and hope for a driver update). I have the latest driver installed from the HP website. I even completely uninstalled and reinstalled it and have the same issue. I EVEN wiped the computer completely and reinstalled Windows 7 along with all of the drivers. STILL I have the issue. Is there any way I can download a newer driver directly from ATI? I tried getting the latest Catalysts but they didn't do much.

Please help if you can. Thank you in advance.

I believe I did try it after uninstalling the current drivers but the drivers didn't detect the card unless I used the ones from the HP site but they're older. I could have sworn I read somewhere that the drivers from ATI don't support the dual gfx card setup (Intel HD/ATI Radeon) could that be it?

You need to enter BIOS set graphics display mode to discrete save reboot install the drivers.
Restart enter BIOS set back to switchable.

Thanks weinter. I entered the bios to do what you said but I did not see any option relating to the graphics card. Is it because I have an HP laptop? I assume HP would provide the drivers to be installed even without entering the bios and having both graphics cards instaled (either enabled at the time).

Not all laptop bios will allow you to use the intagrated gpu.

As for freezing and black screen problm. Temp sounds to me to be the problem.

That's what I thought but it's a BRAND new built HP laptop that is also a new model. It seems to run warm in other areas where it's not graphic intensive and it will not freeze up. It is ONLY when STREAMING videos from online with certain videos on Vimeo and Youtube. I have never had issues watching movies saved on the hard drive.
