i have an Averatec 5400 series laptop which is supposed to have an AMD Athlon XP-M in it. when i check the cpu info, it's saying that i have a AMD Opteron Dublin 2800+. a friend had it and i want to know if this is the same processor with just a different name or if it has been switched out. if it has been switched, which is the better processor?
Some Mobile Athlons XP are K8 based and uses Socket 754. Like Mobile Semprons (All them are Socket 754 K8s too), they uses Athlons 64 Cores that had they 64 Bits (x86-64) support disabled. Its possible that you friend got one of those K8 Mobile Athlons XP.
Firstly its an Averatec. I think they may have one model that uses an amd athlon 64, but they tend to use the celerons, xp-m and centrinos, failry weak processors. They aim for the budget computers. And also, opterons are server processors, there is no possibility that it is an opteron. Only custom laptops come with such a processor and they cost over 3000 dollars usually.
