My sister has had one of these notebooks for a few months and has had no problems up until recently. Her grandson was watching a DVD on the machine when suddenly the thing shut off completely.

She tried powering on (the AC adapter was connected at the time), and all that happens is "the lightning bolt" (power?) icon comes on briefly, then the machine shuts down again.

One support person said to remove the battery, unplug the AC adapter, and press down on the power button for "a few seconds," then re-hook up the battery and adapter and try to start. Sister did this, and nothing happened.

Any thoughts? The only idea that has occurred to me is a bad adapter.

Appreciate any comments/sharing of similar stories.
