i own AMD AND GATEWAY SECURITIES.

that gateway is not the one for the money.
buy an amd turion ml-32 or higher number,
and buy it in an ACER laptop.

shop at either zipzoomfly or newegg dot com

I think you can get a better one with Turion 64 insted of Athlon 64 since they have the same power but the Turion have a lower TDP (25W and 35w). You can look at the Hp, Compaq, Gateway, they offer good deals for AMD laptops.

HeHe...I just felt quite the opposite. Burned myself with poor battery life(45 minutes ) from my AS3003 and now relpaced it with HPCompaq V3000z. Couldnt be more happier.

I would suugest HP/Compaq over Acer/Gateway. Acer tend to be cheaper but their build quality reflects this. Some earlier Gateway/emachines had problems with broken hinges.

There are a couple of ODM's who build/sell AMD based laptops - Asus and MSI. Both have some models available with their resellers online. Some MSI models are also sold under the Averatec brand.

As far as the Fry's laptop goes...I believe they are built by ECS. Other than that dont know much about them.

Yeap, Hp is way better than the Acer's computer, Hp/Compaq have a very good over all quality, very good prices after all.
The Acer might have a good performance but they have a very poor built quality. So at the long run you just don't want to get good performance laptop for the money if not you want to get a good performance laptop with a very good built quality, some that Acer won't offer for the money.

If you want to now more about their quiality just sear in the forum and you will find a lot of post about problems with different Acer Models.

as a brand i dont like DELL for two reasons
1)i have yet to see a dell use AMD
2)dell bought Alienware....since then it's only gone downhill, wich i hope dell will do soon

thier computers come with a lot of loaded "crap" (ad's) and some of their "features" arnt practicle. their physical hardware/case designs are OK, nothing special

I my self don't like Dell after i started to know their computers and their design i realized how crapy they are,
i don't understand why but people made Dell a popular, i think it is jut name because

1st they are intel base computers, and they are slow!! a friend of mine got one of the new 15.4 models that comes with the Centrino Mobile and it also run slow, the keyboard have a poor design

2nd they are spensive, you can get the same thing for less in other good brands like Hp/Compaq, or Even better for the same price.

3rd They don't use AMD

I am college student and my freshmen year i was suprised because when i was moving in to the dorms every body was carring Dell computers, Even my self wanted a Dell when i was looking for the right computer to go to college, at that time i thought they were good but they aren't.

If i remember correctly dell use specialist parts also so they can be expensive to repair.

There is a price war going on between HP and Dell at the minute so i would certainly start shopping around for a good HP that suits your budget and lifestyle. I have a pavilion zv6000 and i have no complains at all apart from a windows software issue. Build quality is good, it doesnt feel cheap or nasty and its easy to use. The only beef i have with mine is its quite heavy for a laptop but im prepared to put up with it.
