Hey folks--I have a compaq presario v2000 AMDTurion64 laptop---good memory, 1.2gigs, everything works fine expect when I try to 1) import a cd into itunes, 2) edit a video file, 3) burn a DVD, etc. CPU jumps to 100% and the notebook just shuts off, no warnings or anything. Anyone have ANY idea what's going on? I've already reinstalled XPSP2, I have ZoneAlarm firewall, AVG Virus check, everything----but even still after the reinstall, the problem remains.

what are the temps like while under load?

Sounds like a memory issue more than heat... It takes about 5 minutes to go from 55 degrees C to 68 at 100%

And what you say it happens soon after it gets to 100%

Have you ran a memory burnin test via bootable CD?

You can try file system check also... it may take up to about an hour. Must use the /R option in the command.

Sorry, but I have had a memory issue that was intermitant, until the module finally died making it easy to deturmine.

Check the temperature readings (Notebook Hardware Control or anything similar) - this processor should turn off (when it is a heat issue) when hittin` 95 C...
