something that I can carry that is not too heavy. I purchased the HP Athlon 64
3200+ a while back and nearly broke my back carrying it in my backpack through
the airport with my luggage and my handbag I want to get AMD Turion
laptop but i really like to be able to play "The Sims 2" and "Sim City 4" with
ease. Plus, I am looking for something under $1,000 and since this is a major
purchase, I would like to be able to use it for a while without having to upgrade (if
that is possible). Can someone help please?
Is the Moblie Athlon 64 the same as the Athlon 64?
I read something about the Durion, where do you buy one in the US?
By the way, what is the difference between a ML-32 and ML-34?
Currently, I am looking at this computer:
Gateway Mx6421
AMD Turion ML-32 1.8gz
Ati radeon express 200m with 64 shared vm
80g HD, 512 DDR VIDEO MEMORY
Ok... the ML-32 and ML-34 are both 1.8ghz. The 32 has 512 L2 Cache and the 34 has 1 meg. Thats the difference. The Athlon 64 "for notebooks" and the athlon 64 mobile are different in power consumption. You can get a socket 939 Athlon 64 "for notebooks" (sticker looks like desktop one). The mobile one uses less power and is socket 754, basically a beefed up turion, or the turion is the undervolted athlon 64 mobile, however you want to look at it (mobile was around first). If you want lightweight and battery life than the turion is fine. That one you are looking at i know we put it on sale for 850 instant rebate at BB, and the little heavier (1-1.5 lbs more) MX7118 (3400+) are similar in storage, memory, graphics cards, etc. Its on sale for 850 this week (150 off instant) The X200 isnt a great card but id think you would be able to play those games with little graphical tweaking. The MX7118 and the MX6421 both have 80 gig hdd, media center of xp, and the 512 memory. I know for a fact the 7118 has 1 512 stick under the keyboard leaving the other user accessible slot empty... so put another 40-50 bucks into it and you have a gig of ram. Both nice models, the turion will give you more battery life. ALSO... did you check out
this one? Its a little smaller but same processor and gfx... xp home, little bit smaller hard drive...but for 750 you could upgrade the hdd to a 5400 rpm larger one or upgrade the memory, w/e. 2 256 sticks in that one tho. Sold out online, more in stores tho. Duron was replaced by the "sempron" which is similar to the turion but with no 64 bit support currently and less L2 cache.
