I just recently bought the emachines M6805. I must everything is really graeat. I have a few questions though.
Every so often the fan comes on for a few minutes(~4mins). Most of the time the notebook is really quiet, but when that turns on... Is that normal behavior?
Also, I have read the past threads about the 800MHz issue on battery mode. What's the latest on the fix from AMD? I know that we can use clockgen, but it that really safe? I don't usually overclock my machines.
That's actually normal fan behavior. When the temp. rises to a certain level, the fan is triggered to cool it down. When it reaches the cooler temp, the fan turns off.
No fix for the 800MHz thing, use clockgen. You aren't OVERCLOCKING, you are just making sure the unit runs at full speed - 1.8GHz. Now if you tell it to do more than 1.8GHz, then you are overclocking. Either way, Clockgen is a safe work around, as long as you don't try to push you computer beyond 2.0GHz.
