Hi, I am a newbie so please forgive the long post. I am not sure what information is relevant and what is not.

I am currently considering upgrading a Presario 900 series laptop (this series is the twin of the EVO N1005 and N1015 ). My current processor is a AXMD1500FQQ3C (35W, 1.45V, 1.33ghz).

I am deciding between upgrading to a AXMD2400FJQ4C (35W, 1.35V, 1.8GHz) and the AXMG2600FQQ4C (47W?, 1.45V. 2GHz). I have four questions. Extra notes are at the end so hopefully this is succinct.

1. Is there any reason why there should be a problem switching a 45W processor into my 35W laptop, such as a different form factor? *

2. What will happen if I put in a processor with a lower voltage (1.45->1.35)? **

3. Is there any information on how battery life is affected by using a Mainstream Mobile Athlon (45-47W) vs. a Low Power (35W)?

4. Does anyone know if AMD is planning to continue developing the Athlon XP-M line, or are they only moving forward with the Mobile AMD Athlon 64? Ideally I would like to upgrade to a 35W 2GHz Athlon XP-M, as that is the fastest processor my mobo can handle.

Thanks for your help,

*Apparently there are two versions of the 900 series. There are ones that come with 35W CPUs and ones that come with 45W CPUs. As the following document indicates (be warned it is a 13MB pdf), there are different part numbers for the motherboards and heat spreader (as well as some other parts) depending on the wattage:' ">

Compaq parts store, however, offers a "Athlon XP2000 processor - 1.67GHz (PGA, 45W)" as a replacement part for my model which comes with a "AMD Athlon XP1500+ processor - 1.3GHz (PGA)" 35w OPN:AXMD1500FQQ3C. Also the EVO N1015 (which use the 45w processors) and the Presario 900's use the same BIOS update.

**Is it important that both processors have the same Voltage? My understanding is that some 45w mobiles stay at 1.45v like the 35w mobiles, while others go as high as 1.55v. The 266mhz 1800+ 35w mobile I believe works at 1.4, and I would think that should be the processor in the 35w 900's.
