I have a Compaq Presario 730US. AMD part DHM1000AKQ1B. It has become erratic. Two years old. Always ran hot. Died a week ago, which means; time to take it apart!

Is it normal for one of the chip capacitors on the top of the Duron to have a really bad solder job? (Also, the old thermal pad was pretty burnt.) The underside of the Duron shows no damage.

What processors could I put in this machine, and how well would they work? Are there any replacement processors that would run cooler? Nothing on the COmpaq motherboard to indicate how CPU voltages are selected, so I guess I'm stuck with 1.65V.

Whats the difference between Mobile durons and regular durons? Not much on this web site to make you think there is ANY difference other than name.

Where's a good place to get mobile durons and thermal pads?
