hey! I'm glad to hear that.
I own an Aspire 1502 which is like 1501 and 1500 basically, and I wonder if this new Bios is for this model or not... but I cant donwload that 1.07 Bios, because the acer support page is not working for me... Could someone upload the BIOS file(and the Flasher Utility) or just send it to me at:

jlg.hrtc (47) gmail.com

Thanks, as soon as I recieve the files I'll upload them to my server, or somewhere else.

Hmm, seems you got bad luck with the memory, can't really tell if it can be fixed. Regarding the bios, I don't think it would be a good idea since 1500 and 1520 laptops have different chipsets (VIA vs NVIDIA).

yep finished all tests.. both memory chios work fine alone in both slots, but togheter it gives some errors in mem test, think i'll need ECC memorys to support more than 1GB... think i'm gonna to the store in a couple of days trade the 1G dim for another 512Mb... damm i'd like to have 1.5Gb ram in the laptop

I have got an 62 Watts mobile chip, what OPN is starting with AMN3000... and built it in. The notebook started and you can work with it, but cool & quiet and automatic clocking down to lower frequencies and voltages does not work.

I think Acer supports in its BIOS only the two CPUs, which are planned by Acer itself.

So, if you want to control voltage and frequency by some software utility, you will get it to work. But this is not a option for me. I would like to get controlled this by C&Q, BIOS and the AMD Driver. But this does not work. The processor is running overvoltages at full speed all the time, until yo clock it down manually by some software tool.

So I build the old 82 Watt original processor into the book.

Also two sticks of DDR400 RAM. You can forget it. I figuret out, that VDimm is too low, to support two sticks. They give ony 2,5 Volts, but DDR400 RAM needs 2,6 Volts. One stick of DDR400 RAM 512 MB will work. Two sticks or one stick 1GB will not.

Sorry for that disappointing information. But how I figured out, notebooks are not very upgradeable.

wait...Did you installed a mobile chip onto a 1501lmi notebook?
this is great, I'm wondering to buy a 4000+ core newark (62W) but I'm not sure if the new cpu will work AT ALL (it has a different core and different set of istructions...like sse3), but if you say that the nb works (without c&q, but it loads the OS)....

We could contact ACER (not personally, but in a big group, or through some associaton of cosumers...) to obtain a new bios wich support the mobile cpus (like the new 4000+ core newark (62W))
it is not hard work...I tried to open the fw 1.07 with a program, and the upgrade is very simple: create a new module of cpu upgrade and add it in the program and rewrite the bios....
but the problem is to WRITE the module.....
stay tuned....

Hi guys!

I'm back again! I have a problem with my acer 1501LMi and I need your advice.

I've bought this notebook 2 years ago from UK, laptopdirect.co.uk is the website. I've also bought an AcerAdvantage warranty with accidental damage.

the bad news is that I have no image on the screen (actually, I have some image but it is very very dark). The biggest problem is that at this moment i live in Romania, and since Romania is not yet in EU, the AcerAdvantage is not working here. I suppose.

So, what options do I have?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can give me1

Regards!

Hi all. I am new here but I read the whole thread.
I also have an Aspire 1501 LMi since 2 years now. Never have the sound problem (BIOS version 1.06) and I am in general happy with the laptop. Except for its weight...
But I noticed recently that it starts to overheat: at 1800 MHz it reaches 90-95C and than it throttles down to 800 MHz and so on.
I guess I have to clean CPU heat radiator or even to glue it again to the CPU. But how do I open the case to have access to the CPU?
Thanks
