I'm shopping for a new notebook/laptop and would appreciate any advice. First I will not be doing any gaming. Mostly the usual home stuff, i'net, some simple digital photo editing plus using a CCD astro-imaging system. I also run a couple of different astronomy planetarium software programs, which require smooth video performance. I'll be using the computer mostly at home and occasionally in the field under battery power.
I'm currently using a Compaq Presario 700 mhz system, but not doing any CCD astro imaging yet.
Question is ... what is the main difference between an Intel P4 with hyperthreading 3.0 ghz and an AMD Athlong 64 2.20 ghz system. These are two I've configured through HP and Compaq. What about battery life and heat?
I'm also looking at 512 mb DDR SDRAM, and 128mb ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 with the HP.
It's been awhile since I've shopping for a new system, so thanks for the help.

Ken
