Hello all
I have been trying to update my recently bought laptop's graphics card driver, yet I couldn't have done it. The card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400. I currently have an july (or august) version driver (for Win XP). I wanted to update it with Catalyst 8.1 but there is no driver in AMD site for this device. What happens if I install Catalyst 8.1 driver for Radeon HD 2400 (instead of Mobility Radeon HD 2400)?
Thanks a lot...

Your computer manufacturer will probably know more about this as they install custom, crappier versions of Windows with the computers they sell. Reason why is it costs them less to buy in bulk copies of Windows that don't have all the features or some such. Sometimes this means normal drivers don't work so well, and the manufacturers don't like to update their drivers that often. Could be something else though.

I have the same problem: Asus X53Sr with ATI Mobility HD2400 not working on XP. Why you on AMD/ATI are not responding to this? Where can I find a generic driver for it in Windows XP ?

If you need Windows XP to run some legacy applications (accounting software "not ported yet to Vista", etc.) or spreadsheet/wordprocessor, than you have great option of:

- installing Linux (any modern/up-to-date version) on your laptop.
You can install it in separate partition, next to Windows partition

- run VirtualBox (http://www.virtualbox.org/) in Linux
- Install Windows XP in VirtualBox (less than 30 min. on modern laptop)
I would recommend make ISO image from Windows XP CD-ROM first, copy ISO to hard disk and mount ISO image as "CD-ROM" in Virtual Box CD-ROM settings.

You will get Windows XP running inside VirtualBox (Linux), this works very well on AMD processors (make sure you enamled AMD-V support in Settings, to activate hardware support for virtualization)

I did it on mybox, and Windows XP runs very smooth - and fast - inside Virtual Machine!
