If you need Windows XP to run some legacy applications (accounting software "not ported yet to Vista", etc.) or spreadsheet/wordprocessor, than you have great option of:
- installing Linux (any modern/up-to-date version) on your laptop.
You can install it in separate partition, next to Windows partition
- run VirtualBox (http://www.virtualbox.org/)
- Install Windows XP in VirtualBox (less than 30 min. on modern laptop)
I would recommend make ISO image from Windows XP CD-ROM first, copy ISO to hard disk and mount ISO image as "CD-ROM" in Virtual Box CD-ROM settings.
You will get Windows XP running inside VirtualBox (Linux), this works very well on AMD processors (make sure you enamled AMD-V support in Settings, to activate hardware support for virtualization)
I did it on mybox, and Windows XP runs very smooth - and fast - inside Virtual Machine!
