you're gong to run into more than that if you do get it to install.
look how many drivers dell has for that pc, and all are vista.
http://support.dell.com/suppor...&osl=en&catid=&impid=

your other option is to inventory your system with everest. and try to go get the drivers individually from all the mfr's dell used to build the pc.

I recently had to find xp drivers for a dell inspiron 1721 and it was no easy task but i found each and ever one. So i thought i would be nice and share them. Note there is no pretty installer like from dell ....your gonna have to point windows to each driver for each device but hey they work. Here is the link

Try using the drivers for the Inspiron 1521 and the Lattitude D531.

If you do not need Raid change the BIOS setting from SATA to ATA

I'm about to enhance my Inspiron 1721 by installing XP on it.
I found that drivers for the D531 could help... but your file seems to be a time saver!
I will try it and let you know how it goes!

Hey,
I am normally good with this sort of thing, but i am in a mess. Any chance someone can walk me through from unziping tpsmc's file to having the drivers running, i will be forever in your debt.

cheers,
Dave

Hi, I just downgraded my inspiron 1721 to XP home edition and I'm having problems installing those drivers...I just get errors saying cannot install. Can you shed any light on this? Do I need XP Pro? Cheers.

I've searched really long and really hard to find a soluation to this problem. The good news is THERE ARE REAL, WORKING drivers for the AHCI SATA RAID controller in the Inspiron 1721. And here they are, from IBM:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/supp...e.wss/MIGR-68363.html

It includes the Textmode driver which you can streamline with nLite into an XP install disc. Everything works perfectly

I'm so happy with this that I have created a torrent with all the Inspiron 1721 drivers and support for the SATA RAID controller built in, as well as support for USB HDD install/boot so that you can do data recovery on a broken system.

I have an HP dv5-1002nr, with an AMD 780G northboard and an ATI SB700 southboard chipset. I am looking for the drivers here and cannot seem to find them anywhere. I am trying to slipstream the drivers into an XP installation cd using nLite. Please direct me to where I can find them?

I downloaded it, but I don't understand how to install the drivers. For example, in the "1394 Net Adapter" folder, there is one file - net1394.inf

How do I use this file to make my net adapter work?

Dell Inspiron 1721 Notebook - Rollback from Vista to XP
March 31st, 2008 . 9 Comments
After Schrock Innovations' much appreciated success in rolling a Gateway notebook back to Windows XP despite the fact that Gateway only provided Windows Vista drivers for the unit.
Word of that success made its way from Nebraska all the way to Pennsylvania where a Vista-strapped Dell Inspiron 1721 longed to run Windows X instead. The owner of that notebook decided to ship it all the way to Nebraska to have our technicians take a crack at migrating it back to Windows XP, even though Dell would not provide XP drivers for the unit.
The operation was a resounding success, and the patient is back at home with its owner now. I asked Schrock's Senior Technician to take detailed notes on what drivers he used and where they were located, just in case you have found yourself in the same situation but cant stand the thought of shipping your Dell to Nebraska.
The first thing we did was install Windows XP on the hard drive and see what Windows could do for itself. We allowed all of the Windows hardware updates to finish, and here is what we were left with:
Video - http://game.amd.com/us-en/driv....aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp
Audio - http://www.dell-drivers.com/de...or-HD-Audio_821.shtml

Network card - http://www.dell-drivers.com/de...-Controller_759.shtml
Wireless Bluetooth - http://www.dell-drivers.com/de...oth-Module_1053.shtml
Once you have installed these drivers, do a second Windows Update. Some of them have updated versions that Windows can take care of on its own once you have shown it the light. Good luck! Let me know how it goes for you with a comment below!

if u need the drivers for the web cam let me know i will upload those drivers

Dear Try visiting drverpacks.net , he have compiled all windows drivers that can be fitted in a single CD. Try downloading only the necessary module and check.

I found a solution for individuals who are trying to slipstream the SATA drivers into an nLite install for the Dell Inspiron 1721 Notebook.

I am going to break it down in the way that I got things to work. Im sure you can adapt this to make it work for you as well.

1. I used a Windows XP w/SP2 install
2. You can find the required SATA drivers at nearly any site, i found mine here:
http://www.getpcmemory.com/dri...21-windows-xp-drivers/ -google.com search
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/supp...e.wss/MIGR-68363.html - gaspoes posted this link above
Or you can google this "AMD SATA AHCI Controller Driver - sp39719.exe" file and download it off the HP website <---this is the actual driver that i used
3. Build your install with nlite, but the key is to not add the "x64" driver included in any of these downloads. Instead I only added the x86 driver to my build. I seemed to always have issues with the x64 driver in particular, and I constantly got error messages saying "achix64.sys is corrupted..."
4. On this particular notebook (which is a first time for me) you can change a bios setting for the Raid/Sata controller. Make sure that this is selected to not use the Raid. I could get more specific on this later if anyone needs, but there are two options in the bios and one is for 100% raid, and the other is for no Raid. You should be able to figure it out.
5. On boot-up after you get through the post, when it prompts you to press CTRL+F, go ahead and do this. Now I am not using 2 HDD's in my computer so for me this solution works great, for others, your going to have to give us some input. After Pressing CTRL+F you come into the AMD Raid configuration page. Again if you only have 1 HDD, DO NOT add it to a raid configuration, im not even sure why this is an option with only 1 hdd. Easiest way to do this, once you come into the AMD raid config page, just press 3 and delete any "array" that exists.
6. From there, boot with nLite build and viola you are good to go.

I appologize these instructions are not well written, I just got my laptop to work for a fresh install after several hours of troubleshooting, and I wanted to post this solution as soon as possible. I hope this helps, if you have questions please let me know. GOOD LUCK!

No need whatsoever to worry about any of the stuff I've seen discussed here. Upgrading to XP or ubuntu is a piece of cake.

Xp: goto demonoid.com and download one or all of these torrents ( under windows applications)

over 250,000 xp and vista drivers. You'll likely find any you need here.
http://www.demonoid.com/files/...ils/1657559/16338078/

massive driver auto-instaler pack for xp Driver Auto Installer Pack for Windows XP (some drivers work with Vista)

universal xp driver pack
http://www.demonoid.com/files/...ils/1607739/16338078/

There is also a custom version of xp sp3 (key preinstalled, validates fine w wga) called something like winxp by dev 10,000 drivers pack and is 1.46gig size. If you search and find this -- you can install it directly onto your 1721 and EVERYTHING works perfectly right from the install. All you gotta do manually is install the ati radeon 1270 drivers available all over the web.

Another alternative is this pirates bay xp sp2? 3? torrent --
Windows XP Home SP3 for INspiron 1721 with USB install and AHCI SAhttp://thepiratebay.org/torren...install__amp__AHCI_SA

Be forewarned though that the piratebay torrent will require a valid key or crack. Validates find with wga though.

Ubuntu versions 8.10 up (maybe 8.04?) require no driver installation (just goto hardware drivers and set up whats there) and just straight up work.

Hope this helps.

Also want to mention there are hacked "tiny vista ultimate" versions floating around on demonoid etc. that fit on a cd, run faster than the microsoft version, validate fine, and just have all the worthless bloatrot ripped out.

I found my inspiron 1721 ***** near unusable and nearly sent it back to the manufacturer (knowing little about computers then, I had no idea the os was the problem). I got the usual runaround which by now is unacceptable. This machine has been out a long time -- they known ***** well how easy it is to run an alternative OS and choose to lie to those of use who don't

Thats why I like spreading this information.
