Just traded in a Gateway laptop with a RM-72 processor because it had a flaky keyboard. Apparently the entire line of Gateway MD laptops is that way. Got a Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5965 with an Athlon X2 QL-65 processor.

Runs decent, but I can't find any info about that processor. All I know is that its 2.1Ghz, dual core. All searches on the AMD website come up not found. The highest model number I came across is the QL-64.

Does anyone have any info about this processor? I see that HP is using them in some of their laptops as well. How does it compare to the Turion RM-72 processor I just gave up?

BTW it is QL-64
It is similar to RM-72 except there are only 2 Power State instead of 3
And it has lower HyperTransport bandwidth although it doesn't matter much.
You might be interested in undervolting it to conserve power.

Is it actually a QL-64?
Here's something I just found, QL-65 seems to have slightly better HyperTransport bandwidth than QL-64 (2000Mhz vs 1800Mhz). But you're probably right, the difference might not matter to me...

HT link speed is identical to RM-72 except for the 2 power state while RM-72 has 3. (I am holding RM-72)
Everything else is identical.
More importantly undervolting is recommended (by me) to reduce heat produced and power conserve for AMD CPU.
K10STAT should work for you.

Ignore the 950X2 MHZ HT, as yours is 500MHZX2

The same question... I'm getting up to 80ºC (176º Fahrenheit)... is that normal? Anyone?

Maximum temperature listed is 100°C. So, provided that 80°C is the load temp, it should be OK. Mine's a QL-62 and it idles at around 50°C, at load I've seen it reach the higher 70's°C.

hi i have 2 machines one is an emachine 442 with a v160 runs nice the other is a aspire 5536 with a ql64 runs great idles at 43 and loaded up reaches 65 i did how ever make some mods to the laptop like open up the vents below the cooling fan some thing which i think acer did not realize they should have done this droped my temps by 10 degrees
