Hi There, I'm new here and came here because I have an odd problem.
I am using a DV9821ea which had a 2ghz turion X2 cpu (TMDTL60HAX5DC AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60)
and I swapped it for a 2.4ghz unit (TMDTL68HAX5DM AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-68).
Did all the usual and has been working fine for months.
Did a adobe flash player update as usual, but then it just rebooted later that day for no reason I can see and when it came back up said installing new hardware and the cpuid is now AMD processor model unknown, I have run cpuz and made a text file of the info.......

I assume the processor registers are corrupted, I have looked at AMD's info on this and it's too complex for me, is it possible to fix this ??

Hope someone can help, many thanks.

p.s. Having done a little research it would appear that the processor should report its ID as F.68.2 ie 60F82 in EAX after CPUID command, suggest 1 bit is corrupted ??

your reply makes no sense.....did you read my post properly, do you understand the CPUID opcode, how it works, where it's stored in the processor in ROM or FLASH NAND,  properties of my computer ????

I already stated that windows thought a new device had been installed after bit corruption in the processor..........words fail me.

Try reading the AMD Rev Guide for NPT Family 0Fh Processors availiable from this website !!

This is for others who may come across this Post:
Up-Dating to the "Latest-Greatest" on a regular basis it is not advisable!!!

If your satisfied with the way "Your" Computer/Programs are performing, why..oh...why are you Up-dating???? (*scratches bald spot*)


Back on Topic!

DV9821EAUSER, the real question you should be asking is, how can I roll-back an "Adobe" Up-Date or... is there a Patch???

And the answer is: It-may-not-be-easy!!!

As your already aware, Adobe has changed things in the Registry and possibly Bin./INI. files, not to mention, your Browser.

If only 1 App. has been compromised, I don't think it's anything to worry about, but if it's deeper than that, it may require, "more" serious Studying or even a OS re-install.


As far as Canis goes... he has learned alot since joining this Forum, Approx. 5 years ago, I've watched him grow... (Keep-Up "The Good-Fight Brother").

He is dedicated to passing on what he has learned here, much as his Predecessors have done sense the Inspection of this Forum (which is being Dissolved on Oct.1 2012)

I'm sure, that your are more than Welcome to Join the http://forums.amd.com/game/ to gain insight, as well as pass on what you may learn along the way.

well, you could try update BIOS to latest, and even though it is up to date, may try to reflash the BIOS, in case it is corrupted somehow.

Hi to all the replies, BIOS has been refreshed but it issues the same CPUID command that windows and "CPUID" program does also, as I said The processor has its ID stored in it and this is retrieved via the CPUID command in machine code, it is returning the code with 1 bit wrong etc.

I ask again is it possible to fix this, can some bright spark out there write a machine code routine to alter the CPUID code in the processor OR is it not possible due to it being in ROM.

Original post shows ID as 60F92 but should be 60F82 in post from second laptop i.e. BIT 4 is wrong, s/b a 0.

The flash player update was just a coincidence but I think it crashed the system and caused the instant reboot which MAY have corrupted the processors ID store, thats why I mentioned it.

DV9821EAUSER, it maybe as easy as doing a, Run> regedit. If, you can Find the corresponding Value then, Modifying Binary Data.

PS: you may have to change the Permissions in the Registry first, to then change said Values

Or, (here it gets messy) it may require an Hex-Editor and incorporating files into the Registry.

Personally I haven't played with those App's in 5 or more years. When a friend brought over some of his Archives for me sift through.

So from here my Street Learnin' may not be of much more help. You may want to do as Canis suggested and visit CPU-Z's forum to see if others are having the same issue.

Keep Us Posted on how it goes.

Hi There, well what a laugh.

Here's the sequence of events.

Windows 7 did some updates today, so the laptop shut down.

I restarted it several hours later, and surprise the bios on boot reported the correct CPU.

Then just into windows 7 it said shutting down ?? when it restarted the bios said again processor unknown.

So......I put the laptop in the freezer, yes I said freezer, for 15mins.

Now It's fine and I'm writing this and adding the CPUID info with it still working.

Will see how long it runs before crashing and reporting wrong CPU.

Suspect NVIDIA defect that is known on MCP67 controller chip.

Before anyone says it, yes the fan system is spotlessly clean and operating perfectly

I do not know if it is a fault in CPU-Z or its just designed in that way, but the memory timings report looks strange, and if the values are true, it may have something to do with the odd shutdowns etc.

CAS# latency (CL) 3.0
RAS# to CAS# delay (tRCD) 3
RAS# Precharge (tRP) 3
Cycle Time (tRAS) 6
Bank Cycle Time (tRC) 12
Command Rate (CR) 1T


JEDEC timings table CL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS-tRC @ frequency
JEDEC #1 3.0-4-4-10-20 @ 333 MHz
JEDEC #2 4.0-4-4-12-23 @ 400 MHz


The RAM appears to run correctly at 400MHz, but the timings are off.

The info from your other laptop was not here to compare with, perhaps it even runs another brand/spec'd RAM?
See if there are any options/timings for RAM to be set in BIOS.
Even setting the CR to 2T might help a bit.

Hi, I meant to edit off that info as RAM is fine for me, its Kingston HyperX fastest I could fit. And the laptop is still running perfectly fine again as I type this.
