There are several threads on using a Turion in a Desktop PC. What about using an Athlon 64 mobile instead. Does the same kind of problems apply as with the Turion ?

You will have two issues, one major, and one minor.
The major one is getting the heat sink to fit when it was designed to accomodate the HeatSpreader. You need to make sure there is relatively strong intimate contact with the CPU surface, with thermal material of course...
The second issue can me major or minor, whether the BIOS will recogonize the part well enough to run it at the predicted frequency.

Though I haven't used these myself, many recommend the Thermalright XP-90...and the fan of your choice...

My desktop has a athlon 64 mobile, MSI motherboard, Zallmann heat sink, it works fine if it boots, It restarts fine but from off I have to push reset a few times, motherboard has trouble initilizing CPU as indicated by the blinky light on back of computer. I would stick to supported CPU / motherboard combos
