Due to the problem with all the Athlon 64 processors that are not revision D or higher in conjunction with VMWare, I was wondering if there is a way to know if the Turion procs pass a certain speed are going to be revision D or higher. Thinking about replacing my dual Opteron with a Turion laptop since due to a force career change the dual Opteron is useless for me. And then the problem with VMWare makes it even worst since I would need to spend around $1,400 for new procs. Starting to see the need to have more mobility in my life with computers.
The problem is: Due to memory allocation with all processors below revision D, you cannot run 64-bit host with 64-bit guests nor can you run 32-bit host with 64-bit guests. My career change has a much higher need for running virtual sessions. This limitation with the older AMD64 procs (and the early Intel 64-bit procs as well) is a fairly important issue for me to consider on all purchases I make that involve using 64-bit procs.
Edit: More research has maybe proven that the Turion will work. Based on VMWare's information:
