I've heard of chips being 'burnt', but have no idea if 'burning' is visible and what it might look like...

I'm worried about the brown mark on the idintifying sticker (through the At of athlon and the 4c below it)

I can't get it to boot on my Abit AN7, POST code gets to 90 then nothing happens /sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' />

I don't see an obvious problem. Can you try it in another system ?

If it posts, then I think the processor is ok. You should investigate in motherboard, PSU and ram.

thanks guys, I've been assured this chip should work fine on my MOBO, it was suggested by a number of people on the Abit forums, My XP2000+ has no problems, BIOS is up to date. Ram is standard Crucial 1 GB, PSU is brand new Tagan.
