Recently switched from a desktop running AthlonXP 2700+ to a laptop running Turion ML-34 for creating music using Logic and virtual synths (just sequencing, no audio recording). Using a firewire-based Focusrite Saffire as audio interface / soundcard. Had clicks and pops when running Logic, which didn't happen before using my desktop and an Echo Gina soundcard.

I am unsure whether these clicks/pops are the result of bad drivers on Focusrite's part or that my Turion64 is slower than my old Athlon processor. Is it?

New laptop:
HP Livestrong laptop
AMD Turion64 ML-34
1GB DDR333 RAM
100GB 4200RPM hard drive (could a slow drive provoke the clicks and pops? i'm not recording audio tho, just sequencing virtual synths)
Focusrite Saffire audio interface (firewire)

Old desktop
AMD Athlon XP 2700+
512 DDR RAM
80GB 7200RPM hard drive
Echo Gina24 audio interface (PCI)

The basic question is: Is a Turion64 ML-34 slower than an AthlonXP 2700+ in terms of raw processing power?

Thank you in advance.

Apples and Lemons comparison...

the 2700+ is a 2167 MHz, 333MHz DDR, 256K L2 iirc...

The ML-34 is a 1800 MHz, 333 MHz DDR with internal Memory controller, and 1M L2...

One's a desktop...One's a laptop...chipsets are probably different...

Windows XP installations and Drivers as well as programs running are probably very different...

CPU speed is only one of MANY variables that can afffect performance...

I suppose in RAW processing power, the higher frequency outweighs most of the rest, so the ML may appear to be underpowered compared to the XP 2700+...but only benchmarks would prove.

Very difficult to pinpoint your problem...
