I have a Compaq Presario (notebook) Class 2500 (2568CL - DK560AR#ABA)

OS Windows XP Home
Graphics ATI Radeon IGP 345M
RAM 512 Mb
CPU x86 Pentium 4 (cannot find socket number - possibly 478?)

I've been having poor load times with almost all programs. Most of my friends advise to look into AMD processors.

Does anyone know what AMD processor my notebook is compatibile with?
OR Does anyone know how I can find out?

I know this is not the correct board to post in, but there aren't any discussing compatibility issues and planning.

Thank you.

Well, the only way you'd be able to swap out your Intel CPU for an AMD CPU would be to swap out the motherboard and RAM also because these are not cross platform compatible (save AM2 and the RAM). Really, you would probably be better off just getting a new laptop if you need more power. There is a reason there isn't much of an aftermarket for laptop upgrades, they are rather difficult to do because of lack of space.

That's what I guessed.

You say I cannot swap out CPUs because of space needs or because of hardware conflictions?

Also why do I need to change RAM? Aren't those usually standardized?
