My daughter's Acer Aspire 3005 with a 3300 Sempron suddenly started shutting down after about a year's flawless operation. (Realize now that this is not uncommon for Acer.)
Checked the chip temp and SpeedFan is showing it hitting 100+ C at 95-100% CPU utilization. Idles at around 57 C; at 50%m CPU runs in the mid 70's C.
Blew out the dust (not much) and checked the heat sink, installed the AMD Sempron processor driver from AMD web site.
Any other suggestions such as does the Turion run any cooler as a replacement?
WinXP Pro SP2
Thanks for any help or leads!

Is the fan running well? Try applying Arctic Silver between heat sink and processor. Was there some voltage/fsb manipulation?

Fan runs low, medium and frantic when chip is really heating. No changes in voltage or fsb that I know of.
Installation is still OEM factory install; what are odds that new thermal grease will help???

make sure the fan and heatsink are free from dust and the bearings are not worn on the fan

Thanks.
Still fighting the temps.
Dowloaded and installed AMD's Sempron Processor Driver At: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Proce...5E871%5E11686,00.html
Seems to help keep the temps in the lower 90's now.
Apparently this is not a new issue for this chip or Acer but what surprised me is how sudden it came on.
Next step is new thermal grease if Acer tech support doesn't respond.
