Hi all,

Recently I had to update my graphics driver because the old one did not support DirectDraw. So I uninstalled the old driver and downloaded the driver from the Toshiba site (The driver prescribed by thosiba for the A210-10Y).

I installed the new driver which went OK. I had to reboot my system and then the driver worked fine, but the problem now is that at uncertain moment s (during playing games or what so ever) the display turns green, blue, gray and yellow with stripes.

When that happens, the whole system grinds to a halt and there is no way to regain control of the system (CTRL+ ALT+DEL or the windows button do not work). The only solution is to reboot the system with the ON/OFF button.

Here is the information I was able to find with the problem solving option on vista, too bad this program is not able to give me a clear answer other than downloading the latest drivers from the ATI or Toshiba site.

Could someone please provide me a solution, I have been looking for answers on the internet for 7 days now, and still I have not been able to find a solution.

I tried different ways of installing the drivers, uninstalling them and installing them again, even tried the Modder program and the new CCC 8.1

Hey Orly I have the exact same problem with my A210-10Y. My powerbutton is mapped to sleep, and that seems to work as a workaround e.g. when the screen is black, filled with green/yellow stripes, putting vista in sleep and awake it seem to reset the ATI HD 2400 (driver). All programs are still there but you still loose for example active network connections.

I almost never run games and have the issue too, eg. working in word, Internet browsing, its bad to predict but a nasty DEFECT
for which either Toshiba or Microsoft must release a fix, e.g. this is not old depriciated stuff, its recent sold stuff from the stores.

Did you find any solution after your post?

As it appears to be a system freeze also the problem seems to stay below the Windows Problem Reports and Solutions.

I will try to drop a support request to Toshiba, ATI & Microsoft.

I was able to locate a higher driver version it seems to be out a while (11/03/08), released by Toshiba, it appears (at least on my laptop) the ATI drivers/catalyst etc won't install; this version will. The version show in catalyst control center is:
