You're right about that 1.4 Thunderbird... it has always been the hottest!
Any Socket 'A' CPU cooler that will fit on your mobo will work. It's only the space around your CPU socket that will limit the size of HS/F that you can put on there.
Try to get one that at least has a 'copper core' if not solid copper.
You'll also want to use a good quality Thermal Interface Material (TIM) like Arctic Silver V.
