My buddy's motherboard is fried and he needs a new one. He has the AMD 1.33Ghz Thunderbird processor and would like to buy the Aopen AK77-600N which is a KT-600 chipset based MB. Will it work? It supports FSB 400/333/266/200MHz

From Newegg:

Supported CPU: AMD Athlon XP(Barton)/Athlon/Duron Processors
Chipset: VIA KT600 + VT8235CD
FSB: 400/333/266/200MHz
RAM: 3x DIMM for DDR400/333/266 Max 3GB
IDE: 2x UltraDMA 133 up to 4 Devices
Slots: 1x AGP 8X, 6x PCI ,1x CNR
Ports: 2xPS2,1xLPT,2xCOM,1xLAN,6xUSB2.0(Rear 4),Audio Ports
Onboard Audio: Realtek 5.1-Channel AC97 Codec
Onboard LAN: Realtek 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet
Form Factor: ATX

Would really appreciate a quick reply as he is dead in the water.

it should work; any Socket A motherboard should support an Athlon Thunderbird. He may like to get a motherboard with an nvidia chipset though, as VIA's Socket A chipsets are not very good.

A note: The 1.33GHz Thunderbird is for 133/266MHz front side bus, so set it to that if it is running at 1GHz after bootup.

Thanks for the quick reply. We have already ordered the Aopen AK77-600N. I appreciate the help. From what I've read in this forum, I feel pretty confident that it will work and your reply helps convince me.
