don't rely too much on what some software tells you...if the CPU is detected with its correct speed on POST, you can be pretty sure it will actually run at that speed.
What Window$-version are you using? IIRC, there were problems with win95 because K6-2 CPUs clocked at 350MHz or faster were actually executing some code
