I have a computer purchased from home shopping network about 4 years ago. It has a 2/300 mhz processor. For some reason the processor is running at half speed..only 300 mhz. I have upgraded the memory to 354 mb. The ram is sd100. the processor is 2.4volts. How big of a processor can I just plug in? Should I get a motherboard/processor combo? Thanks......Russ

Your CPU is NOT running at half speed. A K6-2 300MHz runs at 300MHz.
It depends on your specific mobo and chipset, what's the fastest CPU you could use...if you post your mobo's manufacturer and model, i might be able to tell you what's the fastest CPU you could run.

If you can spare a bit of extra cash, tho, i would recommend you get a whole new mobo, CPU and RAM.
For example:
Athlon XP 2500+ Retail(with HSF) - 90$
Abit NF7-S - 100$
2x Kingston HyperX 256MB PC3200 - 116$ (58$ per stick)
Total: 306$(all prices from newegg.com)

I had an AMD K6-2 with 3D now technology at 500MHz and it lost its edge in a week. Can't really blame it, it was a K6-2 and having Compaq parts didn't do it any favors.

If you want to upgrade this machine, you may try to get a 550Mhz processor, if your mobo supports 100Mhz fsb you will not have problems with this processor. the memory is 384Mb is the suficient.
