I'm thinking about porting over my good old Athlon 1100 onto VIA KT880 or nForce2 400 Ultra mobo with a stick of DDR 400 memory. Anyone know of any problems I might run into doing this? Really I'd just like to know for sure if it would work. Knowing the Athlon 1100 has a 200Mhz FSB(100 Mhz DDR), would the DDR 400 ram also down downclock all the way down to to 200Mhz. Also, do these socket A mobos that list only supported processors FSB as: 400, 333, 266 not support 200 Mhz fsb procs even though the FSB on the board could easily be set to 1/2 of 400 Mhz. Guess it depends on BIOS. Not sure. Or should I be sure to buy the mobo that DOES list 200 Mhz FSB in proc support?

Hi Dave,

Yes, there are boards that can underclock the RAM and FSB speeds; but this doesn't mean they support older Athlon processors.

It's best to check the support section associated with the board you're interested in, citing Athlon Thunderbird-B support.

Good luck /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

Thanks, I figured the mobo sites were the best bet to follow but not sure if there was something I was not understanding.

All latest motherboards support 200 MHz FSB, and don't believe the sites that only say 266/333/400 MHz FSB...they say this cuz they assume nobody still uses a 200 MHz FSB AMD K7.
