Does anyone know if the heatsink/fan combo that came the Athlon XP 1600+ retail box would be sufficient to cool a 1.4ghz Athlon T-Bird? I know they both operate at 1.4ghz but I've read that the Thunderbirds ran hotter than the Palominos. If it helps, I remember that the documentation that came with the XP 1600 box stated that the heatsink/fan combo could be used with an even faster CPU, something like an XP 2000. Sorry, I don't have the docs anymore.

No. Do not use the XP1600 heatsink on the Athlon 1.4

The Athlon 1.4's had a maximum therotical thermal output of ~ 72W

The XP1600's maximum thermal range is ~48-63W depending on core type.

Your best bet would be a heatsink designed for a Palomino XP2100+(~72W) or a Barton XP3200+(~77W)
