I need to replace my cpu fan and heat sink. I do not know what model cpu I have. I know it is an Athlon and the cpu speed is 1.09 ghz. Given this limited amount of information, can anyone tell me what the model number is? For some strange reason I think it is XP1700 but I don't remember.

CPU-Z should tell you what the core name(Code name) is. If it's a Palomino, Thoroughbred, Thornton or Barton it's running underclocked(11x100 instead of 11x133, 11x166 or 11x200).

I also have a problem finding the model number. I have been given a non-working computer and I have established that the CPU is faulty ( It kills the power supply when it is inserted) and hence I cannot use any of the normal methods for finding the model number.
All I have is what is written on the CPU:
A1100AMS3B
AXHA 0106 UPCW
94904560526
It seems to date from around 2001 and the mother board is a MS8308E
The previous owner has no idea!
Are replacements available for these old processors?
