System: Athlon Thunderbird A1400AMS3C, 1.4Ghz, MS-6389 Ver 1 motherboard, KM133 chipset, 133 FSB, 756 MB RAM, Gateway system reliable since 2001.

Problem: CPU fan failed, and during the replacement operation, I accidentally powered on with CPU heat sink and fan removed (don't ask ). Serious beeping on POST, I powered off within 15 sec (pulled power plug), but CPU was VERY hot to the touch. With new CPU fan, system now will not boot -- it powers on, the HD turns, but no video signal, no POST beeps, etc. I'm assuming I fried the CPU.

1. Is there an easy way to check if the motherboard itself is ok? No visual damage, melting, etc.
2. eBay has the processor for sale for cheap, used. Any non-eBay suppliers of this? This technology is pretty old, but has been working fine for modern web surfing/streaming video, so it might be worth it to me to spend $25 to get it going again
3. On the other hand it might be time to upgrade. Before I go the new motherboard/CPU/chipset/RAM route: can this board take a faster processor, be overclocked, etc? Any resources someone out there knows of?
