I've got a Soyo K7VEMPRO with a Duron 1200 CPU. FSB is set to 200. Bios (somewhat) correctly identifies the CPU as an Athlon 1200. However, Windows says its an "Unknown CPU Type" (but correctly identifies the speed). How do I get the operating system to correctly id the CPU? The system functions, it just seems very sluggish, even for a Duron 1200. I've upgraded the Bios to no avail.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

ive seen a computer identify a celiron as a pentuimII,so as long as its running at its proper speed youshouldent have a problem .

I've got 384 MB of memory.

It just seems like the machine is sluggish, so I was wondering if the OS failing to recognize the CPU was a factor.

have you ever defraged your hard drive?also after your cpu has been under a hevy load for a while(like gameing),reboot into cmos and check the temps.
