I replaced my AMD 233 with a K-6 III 450 and after reseting the core voltage and speed jumpers Windows 98 runs very well but it will not complete shutdown. Hangs with blank screen. I have a Elpina board but not sure what model the board is.

Hello,

Try this, it worked for me:

Go to Windows update and apply everything that has something to do with shutdown problems. Or better yet, apply all critical updates and driver updates, too. Another option is to find out your exact board model and look for updated drivers.

microsoft have withdrawn support for win98 so you wont be able to get the service packs...
do you have any instability problems during normal use of the computer? i would think you have a software problem here.. try reinstalling windows, i had the same problem once and a fresh install cured it

Hello,

That's true, which is why you need to do it now! I did it recently (before the holidays) and still got the downloads needed. Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I hear, existing hotfixes will still be available until 2006. There will be no longer be hotfixes for newly discovered flaws and issues though.
