I have just completed the assembly of a K7VTA3, Ver 8.0 and a Duron 1600+ processor and all seems to be working OK, except for these facts. Although my hard drive (new) Maxtor 20GB, Model L2INAYTC, 3 1/2" TEAC floppy AND SAMSUNG CD Reader, Model SCR-3232 are all listed as installed in the standard bios setup. it fails to recognize these 3 items. The computer boots up similar to using a rescue disk with a ram drive and rudimentary Win 98 setup. I have also installed PC2700, DDR, 256 MB memory into DDR1 yet the bios shows 640K Base, 261120K Extended, and 262144 K Total. With regards to the Drives, I get seek and Invalid Drive error messages. Do you have any advice?. Without access to these drives, I cannot fix or work on this problem

Weird...can you try the ram in another computer? like at a friends house...etc...

Maybe your ram is toast for some reason??

Does it properly detect the drives at POST?
Do you have both he Harddisk and CDROM on one IDE-cable or are you using a seperate cable for each device?
