Here goes...I'm a newbie.......
CPU Type AMD Duron, 750 MHz (3.75 x 200)
Motherboard Name Compaq Compaq PC 5wv270
Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8363(A) Apollo KT133(A)
System Memory 768 MB (SDRAM)
*BIOS Type Compaq (03/28/02) * RECENT ROMPAQ bios upgrade
Currently using Windows ME.
Will upgrade to XP..........

Using my best research technic,

Motherboard:
FIC - AZ11 rev. 1.2 - ATX - socket A - VIA KT 133 ( A ) AGP,
W/ 686 ( A ) chipset - Award bios VDA 42 - 6/26/2000......

Okay!
Do I upgrade to XP first, w/ this set-up?

I would like to upgrade to an Athlon processor, As Big As,
or should I upgrade to a Duron?

Then of course, Do I need to flash the bios?,
Again..... before or after XP upgrade?

I have a e-geforce 2 mx400 in the box to include in the upgrade!

Thank You in advance, you guys are awesome...............

C-ya, Tim

Your motherboard has the VIA KT133(non-A)-chipset, so you are limited to CPU's with a 100MHz FSB(DDR200).
According to FIC's ftp://ftp.fic.com.tw/motherboa...table/socketa/az11.pdf' ">CPU Support list, your motherboard supports up to an Athlon 1.1GHz as of PCB-revision 1.2.
If you want to upgrade the CPU, i would recommend a 1GHz Athlon, since a faster Duron would not make much of a difference in performance.

Since you're planning to upgrade the CPU, i recommend you do update your BIOS to the latest version.
I suggest you do the BIOS-update before upgrading your O/S - do it from a DOS or Win9x Bootdisk/bootable CD(-R) if possible.
