Hello, I think my cpu has died, (rip) or half died, i'll explane,
cpu, xp 1700 boxed set
mobo, gigabyte 7dxr
1 gig of ram
cpu always ran about 150f no matter what I did, including having a box fan blowing in on the system, said something to gigabyte on this in the beginning, they said it was ok.
as a next to last chance I changed the heatsink, temp dropped by 10 degrees, I also seen on the heatsink and the cpu the spot of contack was dry. V core was 1.75
system ran ok for about 2 years, then started getting deferent bsod's from xp pro,
took system down to bare bones, even tried a pci vid card, ran mem test 86, 14 times, no problems found, system did not lock up, but if I ran the CPU L1-L2 test the system would lock up, perhaps a software bug.
thinking the mobo could be a problem I replaced with another, asus A7V8X-X, and the cpu temp was 130 f, it still locks up when installing xp pro on a clean drive.
could this be a bad cpu from the start or a bad mobo or something like the chicken and the egg, suggestions?
It could also just be the 'dust-bunnies' that build up over time, in any HS/F.
Blow it out, with compressed, or 'canned air', if you can.
That 130F is too hot for reliable operation.
