After powering up my machine -- anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes -- I get an audible warning (not beeps, but more like a horn with a rising/falling tone twice) and then it shuts down.
I haven't been able to trace this to any particular component and have double-checked power, cables etc.
One technician suggested that the CPU or heatsink wasn't properly installed and I just reinstalled with new heatsink compound and had the same problem.
This is an Athlon XP 2600+ with actual of just over 1900. It has 1 meg of memory and the MOBO is Gigabyte GA-7VT600 1.x. Bios is Award F12.
It's along story, but this machine and these components had worked fine, but I had drive problems and am just now getting around to fixing those and putting the machine back together and in use. Or at least I was hoping to put it in use....
Any chance this is a CPU problem? And what are those wailing horn sounds? They don't match any beep code.
