Hey all -

I'm looking for a DOS utility that can set the K6-2/III+ (Model 9) Internal CPU L2 Cache off, but not disable the Internal CPU L1 Cache in the process. This would be Bit 4 of MSR C0000080 [EFER - Extended Feature Enable Register] as shown below -

CPU L2 Cache Enabled -
MSR C0000080 edx:eax = 00000000:0000000B

CPU L2 Cache Disabled -
MSR C0000080 edx:eax = 00000000:0000001B

Anyone know of one? Thanks!

Why would you want to turn the L2 cache off?

You might be able to do that in the bios.

You can't do this in the BIOS...

I need to perform a diagnostic test in DOS mode. I can turn the cache off using utilities in Windows, but that won't help in this case.

Anyone else have a clue? Thanks!

Hi Kachi,
Take a look at this www.filelibrary.com' ">http://www.filelibrary.com/Contents/DOS/54/new.html or motherboards/mbaron.net' ">http://motherboards.mbarron.net/download/ they've got 100's of dos based shareware etc. Perhaps you may be able to find something that is useful on them. Good luck.
